Trim Optimizer: Blank Shape

Optimal trim lines in automotive cross member

Obtaining optimal trim lines is an essential part of modern process planning. In daily practice, the approximate trim lines from CAD are quite good, but usually not in tolerance. Instead of making difficult and costly correction loops in the try-out, we always recommend

  • Make sure your part is feasible by simulation!
  • Use Trim Optimizer to make sure that the part boundary is in tolerance!

In this housing example, we have a maximum deviation of 17.8mm right from the start and completely different trim lines than required. After 5 iterations and a total calculation time of 30 minutes we get an excellent result with an average deviation of 0.36mm! Incredible how it recognises the geometrical features of the target geometry!
